The Magic of Fireworks In New Haven

The Magic of Fireworks In New Haven

New Haven sure puts on a magical fireworks show, and making balloon animals for the fourth was a blast! (see what I did there?)

I had been contacted by Kyle Yoder from the city's department of Arts, Culture and Tourism back in June about appearing and was thrilled to be able to do it. The original date was to be Friday, July 4th, but rain held those plans off. I try to be flexible whenever possible, so when they contacted me to ask if I would work on the fifth instead, I was happy to switch things around.

I’m happy I was able to; it was such a great atmosphere at the school that night. Families spread out on blankets, kids ran around with sparklers, and the buzz of excitement building as the sun went down. Being part of that kind of community gathering is always a highlight for me, and it reminded me how much joy a simple balloon can bring when paired with a little imagination.

It was great to see how patient the kids (and parents!) were, waiting their turn while still cheering on the creations being made in front of them. By the end of the night, the grounds were dotted with balloon animals, swords, and hats, all glowing under the fireworks overhead. It felt like magic in more ways than one.

Here's what Kyle had to say afterward:

I hired Matt to create his balloon masterpieces for the City of New Haven's family-friendly festivities leading up to our Fourth of July fireworks. Once the first kid received his balloon ... they started lining up in droves. Matt was always happy to oblige, though, making sure each each and every kid left with a smile ... I would highly recommend him for your event!
